It really makes me happy to see that so many women are going back to their natural hair. Natural hair is always beautiful. I love that I can be an  inspiration to naturals everywhere

YBN: You have been natural all of your life. Have you ever considered putting a relaxer in your hair? Why and why not?

AS: I considered relaxing my hair quite a lot in the past because dealing with natural hair is challenging at times. I used to think “people with relaxers must have life so easy”. But then I realized, anyone can have straight hair. But not everyone can have natural curls.

YBN: What have been the advantages and disadvantages, if any, through out your natural hair journey?

AS: An advantage of being natural is that I’m unique. Not many of my friends have embraced their natural hair. I also love getting asked by random people what I use in my hair because I love to give people advice and tips on embracing the natural look. A disadvantage is wash day. I have to mentality prepare myself to Comb out my hair.

YBN: Through out the years, how have you maintained keeping up with your natural hair?

AS: I’ve maintained keeping up with my natural hair by keeping it moisturized and not letting it go too long without combing it out.

YBN: What are your recent favorite products?

AS: My recent favorite products include:
Shea moisture curl enhancing smoothie and leave in conditioner, Jamaican black castor oil, and coconut oil.

YBN: Do you like to experiment with color? Is so, how often?

AS: I have colored my hair a few times in the past. I have had it blonde, turquoise, and burgundy. I don’t think I will color it anymore because I’ve noticed that the color tends to dry my hair out. The first time I bleached my hair, I wasn’t moisturizing like I should’ve been so I experienced a lot of breakage. I think I’m content with my blonde tips. I just focus on keeping them moisturized.

YBN: Is there anything that is a “no,no” for your hair?

AS: A “no, no” for my hair is trying to comb it out while it’s dry without conditioner. I am also doing a six month no heat challenge. I’m on month three. So for the next three months, flat irons will be a no no as well.
